Welcome Counsellors!
As a counsellor you can assist your students by letting them know that the colleges
and universities of Ontario are creating pathways to assist students who want
to move from one post-secondary sector to the other and receive some academic
credit for the learning they have already achieved. These pathways are set out
in collaborative agreements that are listed in this interactive guide, pathways
that move from college to university or from university to college, identified
in the agreements as the "sending"
and "receiving institutions"
to designate the direction of the students' transfer.
New! For those counsellors who attended the
OSCA conference and would like a copy of the presentation material, go to our
"OCUTG Learning Exercises" section below.
Many Ontario students want to gain the advantages of combining college and university study, to experience the best of both worlds. The practical training and education of a college program may be enhanced by the theoretical learning found through a university degree. Or students who already have a university degree often seek the advantages of the applied learning that comes through college programmes.
Counsellors may be interested in exploring the agreements by their classification. The five types of agreements are more fully defined in the Glossary.
To search any of these types of agreements
- Use the Agreement Type search
- From the drop-down boxes, select Agreement Category: "All" and make your own selection for the Agreement Type.
You can also explore the agreements by doing a university search where you select a particular university OR a particular university discipline. The search will yield all agreements to which the university is a partner as Receiving Institution or Sending Institution.
Similarly you can do a college search where you specify a college in the dropdown box or you specify a college division. The search will yield all agreements to which the college is a partner as Receiving Institution or Sending Institution.
The listed agreements also give you the contact information for people at the college or university who can tell you more about the collaborative arrangements and transfer credit. To be absolutely certain about transfer possibilities, check with the institutions involved.
NOTE: The agreement information in this database is provided by the Receiving Institutions. The absence of an agreement in the results does not necessarily mean that transfer is unavailable. It simply indicates that no formal agreement or Direct Entry Programme policy has been established or, if a new agreement is in place, it has not yet been included in the database. Receiving institutions may review individual situations on request, and credit may ultimately be granted.
CAUTION: The pathways described in this Guide are provided for general information
and planning. All pathways are limited to those students who have the prerequisites
and attain the academic standing specified in the agreement. Moreover, even if
all prerequisites are met, admission to the destination program is not guaranteed;
admission is generally on a competitive bases. Please advise all applicants to
contact the Admissions Office of the "receiving" institution/program that they
are considering for more detailed information about transfer opportunities.
